Dracula’s return fuels four sharply different trips through gothic castles, cursed towns, and monster-filled corridors in this carefully preserved action-exploration package. Castlevania Advance Collection brings together Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, and the more traditional, linear Castlevania: Dracula X, covering both the best and rougher edges of the series’ early-2000s handheld era. The mood is gloriously melodramatic: whip cracks, organ music, stained-glass ruins, and a steady procession of skeletons, demons, and oversized bosses. Although the presentation is rooted in 16-bit pixel art, the games remain fast, demanding, and remarkably atmospheric.

Three entries use the Metroidvania formula, asking players to chart interconnected maps, find relics and movement upgrades, unlock sealed routes, and gradually turn a vulnerable hunter into a capable vampire-slaying machine. Circle of the Moon builds character setups around collectible card combinations, Harmony of Dissonance leans into sprawling castle exploration and whip upgrades, while Aria of Sorrow stands out with its Soul system, letting Soma absorb enemy abilities and equip them for combat or traversal. Dracula X instead delivers a focused stage-by-stage platforming challenge, with branching paths, alternate rescues, and old-school precision requirements. Rewind, quick save and load options, replay tools, regional versions, and an in-game encyclopedia remove much of the friction that usually comes with revisiting demanding portable-era releases.

Aria of Sorrow remains the star, thanks to its imaginative enemy powers, satisfying map design, and a modern setting that gives its Dracula mythology a fresh angle. The collection does not fully hide the age of its games—Circle can be opaque, Harmony can feel visually busy, and Dracula X is less essential than the Advance trilogy—but the added conveniences make experimentation painless. A music player, gallery material, and developer artwork give the package real archival value rather than treating these titles as bare ROMs. Fans of Metroid, Bloodstained, or demanding pixel-art action games get a worthwhile history lesson, while newcomers have an especially welcoming route into some of Castlevania’s most influential adventures.
