It is aimed squarely at younger players, but its constant character swapping keeps the campaign from becoming a one-note brawler.

Bolt handles the louder encounters, using laser vision to hit distant targets and his signature Superbark to unleash a damaging sonic shockwave on groups of enemies. Penny approaches situations more carefully, slipping past guards, working through hacking sequences, and using her wheelbar-inspired scooter to navigate hazards and move around levels. Missions alternate between combat arenas, straightforward platforming routes, pursuit sequences, and objective-based stages where the right character’s skills matter most. Checkpoints and forgiving challenges make progress accessible, while the different controls give players a reason to learn both heroes instead of relying on one dominant move.

What makes the game memorable is its commitment to the fictional action series that shapes Bolt’s worldview: the stakes are deliberately melodramatic, the gadgets are absurd, and the world feels like a kid-friendly spy cartoon brought to life. The stylized environments and familiar character animation carry much of the appeal, even when the level design remains fairly simple and linear. Players looking for the depth of Ratchet & Clank or a demanding action-platformer may find it too lightweight, but younger Disney fans get a polished, approachable adventure with enough variety to sustain its campaign. It suits newcomers to games especially well, while fans of the movie get the best experience from its playful use of Bolt and Penny’s contrasting talents.
