Most of the play revolves around preparing a board, placing tokens, and adjusting the battlefield as events unfold. You can create reusable tokens for heroes, monsters, NPCs, treasure, summons, or environmental props, then customize their images, names, descriptions, colours, shapes, and sizes. Copy-and-paste tools keep busy encounters manageable, especially when the party fights duplicates, swarms, or repeated enemy types. Area tools handle the tactical side of spells and traps: rectangular and circular zones can be named, recoloured, resized, rotated, and adjusted into arcs, allowing a GM to show cones, explosions, persistent terrain effects, and lines of danger at a glance.

What stands out is its focus on fast encounter communication rather than rules enforcement. Dungeon Board does not appear designed to calculate rolls, build characters, or dictate a specific tabletop system, which makes it adaptable for Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, homebrew rulesets, and lighter narrative campaigns that still benefit from a battle map. Saving token creations means commonly used creatures and party members can return without repetitive setup, while imported artwork lets a group give its campaign a personal visual identity. It suits dungeon masters who want a straightforward digital board with strong customization, and it is especially appealing to groups who find heavier options like Foundry VTT or Roll20 more complex than they need.
