Lords of Exile places its revenge-driven adventure in a war-torn Far East where samurai and creatures of the night have consumed the land. Gabriel is no spotless hero: his curse grants the strength needed to fight back, while also giving the campaign a grim, blood-soaked edge. The mood is proudly retro, combining gothic fantasy, feudal imagery, and arcade-style intensity rather than aiming for a sprawling modern adventure.

Eight focused, linear stages form the backbone of the campaign, each built around hostile enemy layouts, platforming hazards, and a demanding boss encounter. Combat mixes close-range strikes with throwable weapons, jumping attacks, downward stabs, dashes, and curse-powered techniques, so survival depends on reading patterns and moving decisively. Defeated bosses reward Gabriel with new abilities, giving later areas more combat and traversal options without abandoning the straightforward stage-by-stage structure. Lyria offers a second playable style, while completed runs open Speedrunner and Boss Rush modes for either character, making mastery and repeat attempts a major part of the package.

Handcrafted pixel art gives every enemy, fortress, and supernatural threat a sharp 8-bit look, but the animation moves with the speed and impact associated with 16-bit action games. Tight controls and a soundtrack built around Mega Drive-style chip sounds reinforce its love of the genre’s demanding classics.
