Its tone stays colorful, jokey, and energetic, with plenty of cartoon slapstick rather than serious danger. The familiar personalities carry the experience: Marty is restless and speedy, Alex is dramatic, Melman is anxious, Gloria is unflappable, and the penguins naturally steal scenes whenever they appear.

Players control different animals depending on the chapter, using each character’s simple movement abilities to reach objectives, collect items, avoid hazards, and navigate themed obstacle courses.
