My Summer Car turns the ordinary dream of owning a cheap project vehicle into an absurdly detailed survival sim set in rural Finland during the 1990s. Its tone is equal parts mechanical obsession, dark comedy, and chaotic sandbox mischief, where a successful drive to the shop can feel as rewarding as winning a race. Permadeath gives every reckless overtake, drunken decision, and missed maintenance job real weight.

Most of the early game revolves around assembling an entire car and engine piece by piece, using tools, bolts, fluids, wiring, and a healthy amount of patience. Its deliberately awkward controls, minimal hand-holding, and unforgiving consequences make progress feel earned, while the open-ended structure supports everything from careful restoration to bass-heavy nonsense and amateur rally racing. The rural setting has a distinctive, lived-in character, balancing lonely dirt roads, local errands, strange neighbors, and the constant possibility of disaster.
