Character creation revolves around strengths and flaws that meaningfully alter your options: strong athletes travel differently from perceptive trackers, while medically trained survivors can handle problems that might kill someone else. Combat is methodical and punishing, using targeted attacks, stance choices, weapon reach, clothing, pain, fatigue, and terrain rather than simple damage trading. A bad fight can leave you bleeding, limping, infected, and unable to carry enough supplies home, so avoiding trouble is often the smartest victory.

What makes NEO Scavenger memorable is how convincingly its systems create stories from ordinary survival decisions. Improvised gear has logical uses, weather changes plans, and encounters with strangers can become tense negotiations, ambushes, or fragile alliances depending on your abilities and choices. The interface is dense and the learning curve can be harsh, but persistence reveals an unusually deep simulation beneath its deliberately plain presentation.
