Walls alone rarely hold for long, so players build layered defenses filled with spikes, barricades, traps, elevated firing positions, and elaborate kill corridors designed to funnel hordes where they can be controlled. Zombie attacks grow more demanding over time, encouraging upgrades and smarter layouts rather than simple brute-force combat, while survivor communications add objectives and a broader escape-focused purpose to the sandbox.

What separates it from many open-world zombie survival games is its unusually strong focus on trap engineering and enemy pathing. The island also supports a satisfying progression curve: early desperation gradually gives way to better equipment, automated defenses, and increasingly ambitious structures.
