Skull Island is hostile long before King Kong reaches New York, and Peter Jackson’s King Kong makes that danger feel immediate. Based on the 2005 film but expanded into a substantial action-adventure, it alternates between the vulnerable screenwriter Jack Driscoll and the island’s unstoppable ruler. Jack’s first-person chapters are tense survival excursions through jungle ruins, ravines, and creature-infested swamps, while Kong’s third-person sequences deliver the raw fantasy of becoming a giant ape. The mood shifts effectively from desperate, low-ammo horror to spectacular monster-movie destruction.

As Jack, you scavenge firearms, spears, bones, and flaming branches, then use them against dinosaurs, giant insects, and other predators that can overwhelm the expedition in seconds. Ammunition is scarce, so survival often depends on distracting a beast with bait, setting fire to a weapon, exploiting the environment, or keeping teammates alive long enough to reach the next shelter. The famously minimal interface leaves health and ammo information largely to character dialogue and visual cues, making every encounter feel less like a shooting gallery and more like a panicked expedition. Kong’s missions replace careful resource management with brawling: he punches, grabs, throws, climbs, and uses scenery as a weapon against enormous dinosaurs, with combat built around forceful timing rather than complex combos.

What separates it from most licensed movie games is its commitment to scale and atmosphere. Skull Island feels like a living death trap, and the switch between Jack’s fragile perspective and Kong’s physical dominance sells both sides of the film’s central contrast. Its linear structure and dated controls show their age, but the brisk pacing keeps the adventure moving through memorable set pieces without drowning players in filler. Fans of cinematic action games such as the older Call of Duty campaigns, Turok, or Ubisoft’s early first-person adventures should find plenty to enjoy, especially if they want a focused single-player classic rather than an open-world checklist.
