Star Trek: Elite Force II (GOG)

The Hazard Team trades Starfleet’s usual diplomatic restraint for a phaser-first response in a fast-moving first-person shooter set aboard and beyond the USS Voyager. Playing as Lieutenant Alex Munro, you investigate attacks and strange alien threats that pull the crew into wrecked ships, endangered colonies, hostile installations, and unstable alien landscapes. The tone is pulpy, earnest late-era Trek: familiar characters and technology sit beside a much more aggressive combat campaign. It is a classic 2003 FPS, but its Voyager setting gives every briefing, tricorder scan, and transporter departure a welcome sense of sci-fi adventure.

Missions alternate between solo operations and squad assignments with fellow Hazard Team specialists, asking you to clear corridors, defend positions, sneak past enemies, solve light environmental objectives, and occasionally issue simple commands to teammates. Combat runs on quick movement, constant weapon swapping, and enemies that reward using the right tool rather than relying on one gun. The arsenal goes well beyond standard phasers, including an assault rifle, tetryon gatling gun, grenade launcher, sniper options, and alien weapons, with alternate fire modes adding useful tactical flexibility. Levels are largely linear, though they offer enough terminals, side routes, scripted set pieces, and interactive Trek technology to keep the action from becoming a plain shooting gallery.

Elite Force II stands out because it treats the Voyager crew as more than a coat of paint: Janeway, Tuvok, Chakotay, and other recognizable faces anchor the campaign, while the Hazard Team provides a believable reason for its heavier action. Ritual’s id Tech 3-powered presentation is dated, yet still delivers crisp ship interiors, colorful alien environments, and satisfyingly exaggerated energy-weapon effects. Multiplayer includes traditional deathmatch and capture-the-flag variants alongside modes such as Action Hero and Disintegration, although its real appeal today is the single-player story. Fans of Jedi Knight II, Quake III-era shooters, or Star Trek: Voyager will find an accessible, action-focused Trek adventure that remains especially enjoyable for anyone who wants phasers with real stopping power.
