The Good Life follows debt-ridden New York journalist Naomi Hayward as she takes an assignment to investigate the so-called happiest town in the world, only to find its residents becoming cats and dogs after dark. Its tone swings deliberately between cozy rural routine, dry humor, and oddball detective fiction. That mix gives the adventure a distinctly off-kilter personality rather than the polish of a conventional RPG.

Naomi earns money through photography assignments, resident requests, and social-media trends, with cash funding food, clothing, home improvements, and the basic cost of keeping her life together. Investigations involve talking to locals, checking clues, roaming the countryside, and using Naomi’s animal forms to reach new areas or follow leads: cats climb and leap across rooftops, while dogs sniff out people and trails. Outside the main case, she grows crops, cooks meals, camps in the wild, unlocks shrines, rides sheep, and manages daily needs such as sleep, hygiene, and hunger. The open world is compact rather than enormous, but it rewards detours with side activities, secrets, and the chance to build a more comfortable routine.
