THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake rebuilds Sega’s 1997 light-gun classic with sharper visuals, modern controls, and the same B-movie horror energy that made the original memorable. As AMS agents Thomas Rogan and “G,” players investigate Dr. Curien’s outbreak while racing through laboratories, cellars, and bloodstained corridors packed with the undead. The tone is knowingly pulpy rather than genuinely frightening, with campy voice work, ridiculous monsters, and a relentless pace built around chasing high scores.

Movement follows a fixed rail-shooter path, so the focus stays on aiming quickly, managing reloads, and blasting enemies before they can close the distance. Zombies lunge from off-screen, bosses expose vulnerable weak points, and innocent civilians occasionally need saving, rewarding accuracy and fast reactions while influencing the routes and endings available. The campaign is short in the traditional arcade sense, but branching choices, alternate conclusions, difficulty options, unlockable weapons, achievements, and an enemy gallery give repeat runs more purpose. Local two-player co-op captures the cabinet experience especially well, while gyro aiming is available for players who prefer motion controls over sticks or mouse input.

Its greatest strength is how little downtime it allows: every room becomes a target gallery, and every missed shot can turn into a frantic reload under pressure. Modernized models and lighting give the old creature designs more detail without losing their exaggerated charm, while the additional Horde mode offers a more survival-focused way to face large waves of enemies. A photo mode and armory are welcome extras, though the core appeal remains its compact, replayable arcade campaign rather than a deep modern FPS progression system. Fans of classic light-gun shooters such as Virtua Cop, Time Crisis, or the original House of the Dead will feel immediately at home, and newcomers wanting a straightforward co-op horror shooter can enjoy it without needing any genre expertise.
