Game Overview

Mark Slater’s revenge unfolds as a tense first-person infiltration thriller where every hallway, guard patrol, and locked door can end a mission in seconds. After his father is murdered while investigating the designer narcotic D-Pain, the former cop follows a trail through criminal operations, hunting the dealers and bosses tied to the case. The mood is cold, grim, and deliberately methodical rather than explosive, with cinematic story scenes connecting each assassination job. Across six dark, self-contained locations, the mystery of the drug’s origins gradually becomes as important as the next target on Slater’s list.

Success depends on observation before action. Players study guard routes, collect keycards and codes, slip through vents, climb alternate routes, create distractions, and use isolated enemies to open a path deeper into each level. Disguises taken from defeated guards allow Slater to blend in, while bodies can be moved out of sight to keep suspicion low; a silenced pistol and close-quarters kills offer different solutions when stealth alone is not enough. Objectives can be tackled in varying orders, encouraging experimentation, but the lack of convenient mid-level recovery makes mistakes punishing: once an alarm sounds, surviving a determined manhunt becomes the immediate problem.

The Slater stands out through its compact, puzzle-box approach to stealth, built by a solo developer rather than around huge maps or elaborate spectacle. Each enemy functions as part of the level’s security system, so progress often comes from figuring out who to distract, whose outfit grants access, and which route avoids attention entirely. Its rating system rewards clean work, including runs where nobody dies except the designated targets, giving perfectionists a meaningful reason to replay missions. Fans of Hitman-style disguises and the unforgiving tension of older stealth games should find plenty to like, although newcomers should expect a demanding experience that values patience, planning, and learning from failure.

Setup Guide & Troubleshooting

How do I fix missing DLL errors for The Slater?

After extracting The Slater, navigate to the _Redist or _CommonRedist folder inside the game directory and install DirectX, Vcredist, and any other dependencies included.

What should I do if the downloaded file is corrupted?

The full archive is 4.04 GB — make sure your download completed fully before extracting. Use 7-Zip to extract the files. If you still see a "file corrupted" error, re-download and try again.

Do I need to run the game as administrator?

Usually, no. Start the game normally from the extracted folder. If you see a permissions or save error, check that the folder is writable and follow the game's documented fix. Only grant administrator access when a trusted game's specific setup requires it.

How do I update my GPU drivers for this game?

The Slater requires a  GeForce 750 Ti or equivalent. Update your NVIDIA or AMD drivers to the latest version for the best performance.

The game won't launch — what should I try?

Check that extraction completed and your PC meets the system requirements, including  Version 11. Note any error message before choosing a fix. If it identifies a missing runtime, install the required DirectX components or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

My antivirus is blocking the game — is it safe?

A warning needs to be investigated; the download source alone cannot confirm that a file is safe. Keep your security software enabled and review the detection details. Do not run or restore a flagged file unless you have verified that it is a false positive. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined.
