Game Overview

Gun smoke, occult horror, and the harsh code of the frontier collide in a fast-moving roguelite set in a nightmare version of 1888 Wyoming. You play William Mason, a dead gunslinger voiced with gravelly authority by Ron Perlman, who wakes in Purgatory with little memory beyond a mysterious figure dressed in black. Every descent moves through a shifting afterlife shaped by the fears and beliefs of the souls trapped there, where witches, wendigos, and damned outlaws turn the Old West into something far more sinister. The mood is relentlessly bleak, but its comic-book visuals and hard-edged narration give the supernatural violence a stylish, pulpy appeal.

Combat combines twin-stick shooting with a cover system that demands more thought than simply circling enemies. Mason slides between waist-high obstacles, blind-fires under pressure, dodges incoming shots, and uses lanterns or environmental light to expose threats lurking in the darkness. Runs send you through procedurally arranged rooms filled with hostile gunmen and monsters, while weapon drops, upgrades, perks, and temporary abilities let you build toward heavier damage, faster reloads, stronger melee options, or greater survivability. Death returns you to the start, but each attempt teaches enemy patterns and room layouts, making careful positioning as important as a quick trigger finger.

West Of Dead stands out because its cover mechanics make it feel closer to a tactical shooter than a typical top-down roguelike. Darkness is not merely atmosphere: enemies use it to conceal themselves and gain an advantage, so managing sightlines can matter as much as choosing the right revolver or shotgun. The included Crow DLC expands the package’s grim frontier content, giving regular players more reason to return to its hostile hunting grounds. Fans of Hades, Curse of the Dead Gods, or twin-stick shooters with weightier gunplay should find plenty to enjoy, though newcomers should expect demanding runs and a deliberate learning curve.

Setup Guide & Troubleshooting

How do I fix missing DLL errors for West Of Dead (Incl. Crow DLC)?

After extracting West Of Dead (Incl. Crow DLC), navigate to the _Redist or _CommonRedist folder inside the game directory and install DirectX, Vcredist, and any other dependencies included.

What should I do if the downloaded file is corrupted?

The full archive is 363.66 MB — make sure your download completed fully before extracting. Use 7-Zip to extract the files. If you still see a "file corrupted" error, re-download and try again.

Do I need to run the game as administrator?

Usually, no. Start the game normally from the extracted folder. If you see a permissions or save error, check that the folder is writable and follow the game's documented fix. Only grant administrator access when a trusted game's specific setup requires it.

How do I update my GPU drivers for this game?

West Of Dead (Incl. Crow DLC) requires a  Nvidia Geforce GTX 1030 / Radeon RX 550 or equivalent. Update your NVIDIA or AMD drivers to the latest version for the best performance.

The game won't launch — what should I try?

Check that extraction completed and your PC meets the system requirements. Note any error message before choosing a fix. If it identifies a missing runtime, install the required DirectX components or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.

My antivirus is blocking the game — is it safe?

A warning needs to be investigated; the download source alone cannot confirm that a file is safe. Keep your security software enabled and review the detection details. Do not run or restore a flagged file unless you have verified that it is a false positive. If you are unsure, leave it quarantined.
