Each session places players before the Apollyic table, where supernatural forces answer, deceive, threaten, or demand a price for their aid. The mood is deliberately grim and mystical, leaning into demonology, spiritual projection, and the uncertainty of making a deal with something far more powerful than you. Its branching stories give the adventure the feel of a choose-your-own-path tale, but every choice feeds into a broader campaign of escalating occult ambitions.

Play revolves around placing obsidian tokens on the table to shape the available powers, influence approaching entities, and alter the odds of the trials ahead. Every round presents three entities to confront, and brute force is only one answer: players can invoke, negotiate, mislead, form treaties, or seek another route through the encounter. Beneath its narrative surface sits a roguelike strategy framework with deckbuilding-style progression, as permanent Invocations and portable charms gradually expand the options available in later rituals. Co-op for up to three players is more than a tacked-on feature, since everyone shares the table’s alignment while coordinating which character is best suited to lead a risky action. A nimble practitioner may evade a hostile spirit, while another character’s defensive traits make them the safer choice for absorbing the consequences of failure.
